Our School Day

Core hours - 8.45am-3.15pm (32.5 hours)

The school day starts at 8.45am

The gate and doors open from 8:40am with registration at 8.45am.  Breakfast club is available from 7.45am - 8.45am. This is also the opportunity to have a brief chat with members of staff about any issues that are urgent to know. Lessons begin at 8.45am immediately after registration.

Morning break is 10:45am

The children have a snack of fruit or vegetables, which is provided by the National Fruit Scheme and from local fruit suppliers. School subsidises the scheme so that all children have a snack. Children in the Early Years also have a drink of milk. We actively encourage children to drink water when they are thirsty and the children have access to water at all times. . A bell rings 2 minutes before the end of break to indicate break coming to an end in order to have a last minute trip to the toilet, start to tidy equipment etc.

Lunch is between 12:00pm and 1:00pm

Lunch School meals are currently free for children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. For Nursery, Y3, Y4, Y5 and Y6 children meals cost £2.60 a day (unless your child is entitled to free school meals). Children can bring a healthy packed lunch (we ask you not to include sweets or fizzy drinks please), or they can opt for a school meal which is cooked at Kirkby Thore Primary School and brought to us to be served by Mrs Bainbridge. The hot meals run on a three-week rota, which is up in the hall, with an alternative choice each day of a jacket potato or a roll/sandwich with a variety of fillings. The cooks work hard to organise menus that are healthy, home cooked where possible, and which appeal to the children. Parents can access menus on Parentpay. Your child can have dinner every day, or just now and then. Dinners are ordered and paid for online at https://www.parentpay.com.

Collective Worship

Every day we have Collective Worship at either 8.45am or 1pm. During Collective Worship we have songs, prayer, bible stories and activities. We often have visitors in school to lead worship including Rev Katharine Butterfield and Ruth Evans from NISCU. We also have regular family assemblies in our local church, All Saints. Our Celebration Worship occurs each Friday and we share achievements, successes, and celebrate pupils who have demonstrated our school values.

Afternoon break is 2:15pm for Class 1 only.

Home time is at 3.15pm

We ask parents to wait in the playground at the front of school and the children will leave via their classes when a member of staff has seen the adult designated to collect them. Children going home on the bus are taken by a member of staff and seen safely on to the bus. Please let us know in the morning or by phone if there is a change to the usual collecting arrangements for your child as we cannot let a child go home with someone else unless we have been asked to do so by their parent or carer, even if the other person is known to us. If you need to pick up your child at some point during the day other than home time, please come to the front door and we will bring your child to you.

After school club is available from 3.15-5pm Mon-Thursday - please complete a booking form from the office.
